sound transmission loss (tl) in sandwich structures has been studied extensively over the past several decades. two different approaches have been used for the computation
of tl in sandwich structures, including the classical method [1] and the statistical energy analysis (sea) method [2]. sea is a powerful analytical tool for the prediction of tl in large structural systems, especially for the high frequency range. the majority of the tl calculations for sandwich structures using the sea method have been based on the simplified equivalent layer model of a sandwich panel. the
use of the equivalent layer model does not account for the influence of thicknessstretch (symmetric) vibration modes on tl, nor does it predict symmetric coincident
