an attractive formulation to study wave propagation in piezoelectric composite materials appears to be the eightdimensional state vector formalism proposed originally by
kraut [1]. at the heart of this formulation is the well known
fact that a system of ordinary differential equations can be
transformed into a first-order system. bao et al [2] presented
an electromechanical model of the bilaminar piezocomposite design with an analytical discussion. the analysis of the actuator was carried out based on the mason equivalent
circuit representation (mecr). lafleur et al [3] discussed the use of single and double layers of piezoelectric material to form acoustically active surfaces for the elimination of reflected and transmitted waves from a theoretical standpoint. this paper was declared to be the first to give the basic
equations relating the reflection or transmission coefficients of a layer of piezoelectric material to the driving voltage applied across it, and, furthermore, the comparison between the measurements of these coefficients and those calculated from
the complex elastic, dielectric and piezoelectric constants. honein et al [4] introduced a systematic methodology to investigate wave propagation in piezoelectric layered media using the concept of the surface impedance tensor (sıt).
